Peter Squires meets The Beast. One machine caused more interest than most at the Flintham ploughing match on September 27. It was John Hayward's Triple Doe! Last year he altered the tractor to accommodate a Ford 6D six-cylinder engine in the rear unit, but this year he has gone a step further. The Doe has been given a power boost with a third engine, increasing the blue and orange 'beast' to around 170hp. What made him do it? "A friend commented after I'd fitted the six-cylinder engine, 'What's next, fit a third engine?' We laughed but then I thought about it, thought some more and then decided, why not? It can be done!"
