WE TEND TO TAKE the seals used to protect motor bearings for granted. But an American company reckons that if the conventional lip seals used on the 38 million industrial motors in service in the US were replaced by non-contacting seals, the energy savings would amount to 5,586MW - equivalent to ten coal-fired power stations.
