More than half of the compressed air generated by some industrial plants is lost though leaks. The author who is responsible for air leakage surveys at Wyko, highlights the potential savings that can be made by cutting such leakages. THE LARGEST SINGLE waste of energy associated with compressed air is leakage. On some sites, leaks accounts for more than half of the site's total air consumption. The potential cost of this wastage is immense, especially when you remember that the price of the electricity used to generate the compressed air has doubled in recent years. Around 10% of the electricity used by industry is dedicated to air generation - rising to 30% in some sectors.
