文摘:A SWISS SAWMILL reckons it has halved the energy it needs to produce its timber by installing 1.2MW of AC drives. The upgrade is part of a project that will eventually see more than 2MW of drives installed at the Scierie Zahnd mill in Rueyres, a village halfway between Lausanne and Berne. When the project is complete, the plant's output will double to 200,000m{sup}3 of cut timber, for about the same operating cost, enabling the company to compete more effectively in the aggressive European market. The site's annual power consumption will remain at around 280,000kWh, effectively halving the electrical power consumption per m{sup}3 of cut timber!
