The MeteringCode describes the basic requirements for metering, data-retrieval and data-supply in the liberalized German energy market. It represents the basis for all contractual regulations between consumers, suppliers, balancing group and distribution system operators. The proper use of the network system and the accurate billing of energy input and consumption can be assured only by correct metering and data forwarding to all players in the market. The latest version is a revised edition of the MeteringCode 1999. The author will discuss the basic principles of the MeteringCode 2000 and stress the modifications to the preceding version.
