文摘:A remarkable feature of the limestone deposits in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim (ES), Brazil, is their high lightness values, which can exceed 99% of the ISO standard and make this raw material especially suitable for applications in the paper industry. Problematic, however, is the high content of insoluble matter in the silica minerals (up to 10 wt. %) as this should not exceed 1 wt % for such applications. Investigations were performed to establish whether the content of silica minerals in the limestone can be reduced to the required value by means of flotation. In a flotation process with Flotigan FDA-B from Hoechst AG as a collector, gelatinized starch as a depressant and methylisobutilecarbinol as a frother, a limestone yield between 75 and 85% with less than 0.5 wt. % insoluble matter could be obtained.
